After School Program (ASP)

St. Paul’s Episcopal School After School Program (ASP) is an extension of the regular school day. ASP students must abide by all school principles and guidelines while in ASP. The program serves the childcare needs of parents and students while fostering the same St. Paul's community atmosphere.

  • After Care

    Sign-In: 
    ASP assumes responsibility for all students on campus from school dismissal times until 6 p.m. 
    Every student is assigned a separate sign in/out sheet for the session or for the year. These sheets are placed in grade-level binders in alphabetical order by last name.

    Students waiting outside the building will be checked into ASP, parents will be contacted, and billed according to the time their child is picked up. The drop in fee is $15.00 per five minutes or portion thereof. 

    Please do not give your children contradictory and inconsistent messages by telling them to wait in the lobby, on the sidewalk, or on the church steps.
     
    Sign-Out:
    Every student must be picked up by an authorized adult in the green zone, in front of the school at the Lower School 116 Montecito Ave or at the Middle School at 262 Grand Ave. 


  • ASP Schedule

    Before Care and the After School Program begin on the very first day of school, Wednesday, August 25, 2021. The After School Program is available for students, Monday through Friday, from class dismissal time until 6 p.m. There will be 6 sessions throughout the 2021-2022 school year. 

    The session dates are: 
    Session 1: August 25 - October 6th

    Session 2: October 12 - November 18th

    Session 3: November 29 - December 17th

    Session 4: January 4 - February 18th

    Session 5: February 28 - April 8th

    Session 6: April 19 - June 3rd   

    The After School Program will be CLOSED on the following dates: 
    • Monday, September 6: Labor Day

    • Thursday, October 7 and Friday, October 8: Teacher Conferences 

    • Monday, October 11: Indigenous People Day

    • Monday, November 22 - Friday, November 26: Thanksgiving Break

    • Monday, December 20 - Monday, January 3: Winter Break

    • Monday, January 17: Martin Luther King Jr. Day

    • Monday, February 21 - Friday, February 25: President’s Week

    • Thursday, March 17 and Friday, March 18: Teacher Conferences 

    • Monday, April 11 - Monday, April 18: Spring Break 

    • Monday, May 30: Memorial Day 

  • Before Care

    Before Care is available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. in the Lower School building. Students will be signed into Before Care on the Mezzanine. Every student is assigned a separate sign in/out sheet for the month. The sheets are placed in grade level binders in alphabetical order by last name. After students are signed in, they may finish their breakfast, read, play games, complete homework, or socialize. At 8 a.m. Lower School teachers will meet students on the Mezzanine and accompany them to the appropriate locations for their grades. Middle School students will be escorted to the Middle School building by the person overseeing Before Care.
     
    Students may not be dropped off before 8 a.m. in front of the school buildings with the expectation that they can "hang out". Students dropped off in front of the school buildings before 8 a.m. will be enrolled in Before Care and parents will be billed accordingly.

    Students must be registered for Before Care three weeks in advance or on the first day of a session. Students must attend Before Care consecutively in order to continue participating in the program. (For example, if a student misses week one, they cannot show up for week two or week three.)



  • Important Notes about Sign-Out Procedures:

    Sign out:
    Students in grades K-5 will be signed out by ASP staff members once they have been picked up by their parents or guardian.

    Students in grades 6-8 will sign themselves out at the front desk once their parents or guardian have arrived. 

    Students in grades 6-8 may sign themselves out of the programs with their parent's or guardian's written permission. ASP must have prior written permission in order for your child to sign him/herself out of ASP.


  • Pick-Up Authorization & Procedures:

    Pick-up:
    Lower school students will be picked up at the green zone in front of 116 Montecito Ave. ASP staff members will escort the student to their car, therefore parents should remain in the car at all times. 

    Middle school students will be picked up in front of 262 Grand Ave. ASP staff members will escort the student to their car, therefore parents should remain in the car at all times. 

    Pick-up Authorization:
    We will not release students to anyone who is not on the authorization list. Please notify any authorized adults of ASP sign out procedures.

    Anyone picking up a student from ASP should be prepared to show proper ID (Driver’s License or State ID).

    ASP must have direct communication from parents or guardians before any student is allowed to leave with a non-guardian, including other St. Paul’s parents. All pickups must be authorized in writing, we will keep these written documents on file as reference for future pick-ups. The document must contain the pickup person’s first and last name, the student who is being picked up, the period of time for which the person is authorized to pick up, the date that the document is written, and the parent/guardian’s signature.

    Please notify ASP if you wish to remove someone from your student’s list of authorized pick-ups.


    ASP will not accept hand delivered notes by someone not on the authorized list.


    Please let ASP know, in writing, if there is anyone expressly forbidden to pick up your child.



  • Veterans Green Dismissal

    Teachers arrive at the Veteran’s Green with their students in grades K-1 at 2:30 p.m., second and third grade arrive at 3:00 p.m., fourth and fifth arrive at 3:10 p.m., and grades 6-8 arrive between 3:20 p.m. Teachers remain with the students for 10 minutes after the designated dismissal times. After 10 minutes, teachers escort students back to the Lower and Middle School respectively, and they are signed into the After School Program.

  • Snack

    All students will receive a prepackaged snack shortly after sign in. ASP provides nut-free snacks consisting of a fruit or vegetable and a main snack. Students are welcome to bring their own snacks to eat during ASP. In keeping with school guidelines, students may not share snacks brought from home. We ask that you provide healthy, no-nut, low-sugar snacks.
  • Sporting Events

    Students who are signed into the After School Program (ASP) may attend on-campus sporting events with ASP staff. Any students not signed in to ASP must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian if attending an on-campus sporting event. Roaming the campus independent of parent/guardian is not allowed. Student must remain with the parent/guardian at the sporting event. Any unaccompanied students will be signed into ASP automatically and parents will be notified.

  • Study Hall

    Students in grades 3-8 may attend silent Study Hall, Monday-Thursday, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Study Hall is proctored by ASP staff. Students may choose to attend Study Hall on their own. Parents or teachers may request that their student be placed on our Study Hall Call List as well.
  • Activities

    ASP students can choose from a variety of activities each day such as study hall, game room, reading, art projects, and organized indoor and outdoor games. Activities begin after snack time. All activities end promptly at 5:30 p.m. and the remaining students in ASP will assemble on the Mezzanine until they have been picked up. Playground activities may be extended depending on the weather and number of students remaining in the After School Program.
  • In-house Enrichment Classes

    These are classes are free for the students that are signed in to ASP. Most in-house enrichment classes last 4-6 weeks in the Fall, Winter or Spring. However, some sessions may last longer. The time-frames for each season are as follows:
    • Fall: October 1 through November 26 (Thanksgiving Break)
    • Winter: December 2 through February 13 (President’s Week Break)
    • Spring: February 24 through May 22 
    Registration for these courses open at 8PM the Friday 2 weeks prior to the course beginning. Links to registration may be located on the ASP section of the St. Paul’s webpage or the school Calendar.

    Cancellation Policy
    In-house enrichment class registrations are non-refundable 24 hours after the registration has been received. We cannot issue refunds or credits after the registration deadline. ASP cannot prorate course fees for any reason, including illnesses. Enrichment course payments are non-transferable, parents will be required to pay the full course tuition at the time of registration. St. Paul’s After School program reserves the right to cancel any enrichment class due to low registration.

Enrollment and Billing

  • Enrollment: Full Time Contracts and Hours

    Full Time Contracts:The Full Time Contract is designed for students who will be in the After School Program for 6 or more hours per week. 

    Parents can sign up for Full Time Contracts anytime after May 31, 2021. After 24 hours of signing up, the Full Time Contracts are NON-REFUNDABLE. 

    Full Time Contracts can be paid in full, in two annual installments, in equal monthly installments (paid in full by June 1, 2022), or monthly payments applied to F.A.C.T.S. Please contact ASP Director Kenton Young at 510-285-9618 for more details and for assistance in deciding which ASP option makes sense for your family.

    These are the options for full time contracts:

    Option 1 includes the following:
    Aftercare until 5:00 p.m.

    Option 2 includes the following:
    Aftercare until 5:30 p.m.

    Option 3 includes the following:
    Aftercare until 6:00 p.m.

    Hours: Hours are a convenient option for infrequent or part-time users. Hours are available in increments of 30 hours/session or 60 hours/session. Students must be registered three weeks in advance or on the first day of a session. Registration can not be accepted after a session has begun. Purchased hours can only be used during the selected session and do not rollover into the next session. However, Aftercare hours can be shared by siblings. 24 hours after signing up, the Hours are NON-REFUNDABLE.
     
  • Care Cards

    Care Cards can be used during the 2021-2022 school year. However after your hours have been used, you have to purchase hours by session or full time contracts. Note: Unused Care Card hours will not be rolled into the 2022-2023 school year. Negative Care Card balances must be cleared before signing up to ASP. 


  • Drop-in Hours

    Drop-ins are not available for the 2021-2022 school year. Students who are not picked up during dismissal time will return to the school and wait on the mezzanine until they are picked up. Staff will contact parents.
  • Late Fees

    The After School Program ends promptly at 6 p.m. After 6 p.m., the late fee is $15 for each five minutes or portion thereof. (For example, if you are 6 minutes late, you will be charged $30.) The Business Office will automatically charge the late fee to your account. It will be reflected on your monthly statement. Please note that late fees will not be waived.
  • Vacation Camps

    Vacation camps are not offered during the 2021-2022 school year.
