Mission

St. Paul’s prepares students to be confident and skilled learners, cultivates in them a strong sense of purpose, and inspires them to be generous and active citizens of the world.
Spark 2022 is guided by the singular purpose of nurturing the unique spark that lives within each of our students. It is a vision grounded in who we are and what we value.
The plan envisions a St. Paul’s where students:
  • are intellectually curious and engaged,
  • become problem solvers of the future through community involvement, and
  • know themselves, respect and appreciate the experience of others, and seek to understand the world around them.

Through the plan, St. Paul’s will tend to each student’s spark so that it grows to become a beacon that lights up Oakland and the world.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

We will focus on three priorities to build on our strength and become a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community:
  • Recruit, support, and retain families, students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
  • Ensure that our academic program reflects all of our students’ experiences in order to educate global citizens.
  • Create an environment for authentic conversations and relationships between people from different backgrounds.
Academic Excellence

We will focus on three key priorities to deepen the St. Paul’s academic experience:
  • Achieve the vision of our academic program by building skills in each of our core values, successfully guiding students through their development, and implementing an eighth grade capstone project.
  • Connect every student to the city around us to expand their academic opportunities and to build a sense of connection to the Oakland community.
  • Create an exemplary K-8 service learning curriculum integrated with the academic program.
Institutional Stewardship

We will focus on three priorities to care for our people, facilities, and finances:
  • Invest in our faculty, staff, and administration by providing competitive salaries, supporting professional growth, and offering leadership opportunities.
  • Renovate classrooms and communal spaces to complement our academic program.
  • Grow our financial resources to ensure St. Paul’s can continue to serve and provide access to a wide range of students and families, now and into the future.
Over the next five years, these three priorities will guide our decisions about how we deepen the academic experience, ensure institutional stewardship, and promote diversity, inclusion, and equity. In 2022, we expect that our students and graduates will be well grounded in the St. Paul’s values and prepared to take on the challenges that lie ahead for them.
