Nomination and Election of Trustees

As the above illustrates, the composition of the Board is a complex business. As members rotate off after their terms expire, the Board looks to replace and augment the skills and perspectives it needs. The overarching goal is to serve the school and its mission.

Nominations and self-nominations come from the school community and from the Board itself. The Trustees Committee of the St. Paul’s Board reviews all nominations. When it seems that a candidate might fulfill the board’s and the school’s needs, members of the committee will engage in further information gathering, such as meeting with the candidate or speaking with his or her references. The committee makes recommendations on nominees to the full Board, which has the authority to elect new trustees. Trustees typically are elected in the late spring, with their terms beginning at the start of the new school year.
