Transition to Kindergarten

Transition to kindergarten is a fun and engaging way for rising kindergarten students to adjust to their new school. During the program, the teacher will offer activities which promote positive socialization, hands on learning and active exploration. Our transitional kindergarten program is designed to set your student on the path to being successful learners.

Our primary objectives  Transition to  Kindergarten:

Students will enter kindergarten with an understanding of school procedures and structures

    Students will learn social, academic, communication, and problem-solving skills.

    Students’ increased readiness for kindergarten will result in higher self-esteem

Throughout the week, students will enjoy language arts lessons (phonics, phonemic awareness, and reading readiness) math (skills and concepts, vocabulary and games), fine and gross motor movement, arts and crafts, outdoor activities and social/emotional workshops (Responsive Classroom, Non-Violent Communication and People Power Skills). They will have the opportunity to make new friends, meet St. Paul’s teachers and get to know the campus.

We understand that the academic and social readiness of children varies. Therefore, the transitional kindergarten teachers will work closely with lead kindergarten teachers to create a developmentally appropriate curriculum that will prepare the children to enter kindergarten. They will begin by administering reading and math assessments to each student. This will enable the teacher to meet the academic needs of the students, as well as challenge them to take risks. Before the school year begins in the fall, the transitional kindergarten teachers will meet again with the lead kindergarten teachers and discuss the student’s academic progress, interests and overall personalities.

Transition to  Kindergarten at St. Paul’s promotes a positive and comfortable entry into the St. Paul’s kindergarten family. Familiarizing the children to their new school environment, procedures, routines, and expectations help students to prepare for their exciting kindergarten adventure.
