Affording a St. Paul's Education

Since our founding, maintaining socioeconomic diversity among our students has been one of our central values. This diversity affords all our students a chance to learn more deeply, think more critically, and be better prepared to step into the world that awaits them after St. Paul's. To that end, we focus attention and resources on flexible tuition.

We know all families who select an independent school are choosing to invest in their child's education. If flexible tuition will help put that investment in reach, we encourage you to apply. More information about our process and policies is available by contacting Nicole Start, Director of Finance at 510-285-9609.

Financial Assistance Awards for the 2026-27 school year

Applying for Flexible Tuition is optional. Flexible Tuition is our way of setting tuition at the right level for each family. All families at the school pay tuition annually in the range from 25% to the full posted tuition. St. Paul's uses Clarity to compute tuition for families.  If you plan to apply, complete the application on Clarity. Please note the application deadline-

  • Current Families - December 1: Family Application due.
  • New Families - December 1 (early applicants) or January 19, 2027: Family Application due. St. Paul's notifies families of their tuition in the admissions decision packets that are sent in mid-March.

Families receiving Flexible Tuition must reapply each year. Because a family’s financial circumstances may change over time, we require all families receiving Flexible Tuition to reapply each year. As long as a family’s financial circumstances remain significantly unchanged from year to year, families can generally expect to pay within the same percentage range annually. For current St. Paul's families, receiving Flexible Tuition is contingent upon payment of the prior year’s account.
