Technology at St. Paul's

In Middle School: At the start of each school day, students will place all personal devices (including phones, smart watches, headphones) in a secure, locked container. Students will retrieve their items at the end of the day. If a student is found using a personal device during school hours, they will call a parent or caregiver, who must come to school to pick up the device. If students violate this rule a second time, then they will be asked to go home for the day. 

In Lower School: If a student is found using a personal device during school hours it will be confiscated and kept in a secure, locked container in the Lower School Office. Students can retrieve their items at the end of the day and an email will be sent home reminding families these items must be kept at home.

St. Paul’s Digital Pledge exemplifies our mission and core values as a community. It has two aspects:

• Students do not have smartphones or smartwatches with open access to the internet. 
• Students do not have personal social media accounts or unmitigated access to platforms like tiktok, snapchat, instagram, youtube, etc.

The pledge complements our social emotional curriculum by prioritizing human literacy – what it means to be human, have empathy, and form authentic connections with others. Developing these skills transforms our learning and our lives. We enter the “interfacing with technology” conversation at school when there are harms or behavior on or because of group text threads which can also be informed by what our students pick up on social media. With your commitment to this pledge, our partnership will bridge the skills we use at school with what you use at home to address your child’s healthy, developmentally appropriate use of technology.
