Sixth Grade ELA: Utopian Societies
Angelina Gonzales, Sixth Grade
Sixth grade students are currently applying their descriptive writing skills through a creative utopian society project, in which they design and clearly communicate their vision of a “perfect” world. Students' descriptive bullet points for each slide must use precise, vivid language to “show, not tell”, as they bring their societies to life. This assignment serves as a foundation for the critical thinking they will engage in when they begin reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. After completing their projects, students will participate in a gallery walk to preview their peers’ societies and reflect on which ones they would choose to join.
