Migration, Displacement, and Borders in Seventh Grade
Brisa Camacho-Lovell, Seventh Grade
Seventh graders dove straight into their exploration of migration, displacement, and borders, which are the focal themes of the seventh grade year. Students have learned about local experiences with migration and considered how racist housing policies and practices have led to internal displacement of people in the Bay Area.
Students flexed their political power by attending a City Council meeting via Zoom to hear more about proposed legislation that could expedite evictions of unhoused people throughout Oakland. In this picture, you see students chatting with two members of Oakland’s MACRO team.
