Middle School Classroom Chronicle

The eighth grade year marks an important period of growth and transition for students at St. Paul’s. One of the most significant milestones during this year is the high school selection process. Early in the year, eighth grade families begin exploring a wide range of high school options–public, private, and parochial–learning about the similarities and differences among them. Factors such as location, school culture, academic programs, class size, and athletic opportunities all play a role in determining the best fit.

During the first trimester, eighth graders participate in a dedicated high school placement class where they learn test-taking strategies for standardized tests, practice interview skills, and develop thoughtful responses to application essay prompts. By January, families have identified the schools to which they will apply and finalized their applications. In mid-March, families receive admissions decisions and make their final high school choice.
