Middle School Classroom Chronicle
As we approach the final trimester and eighth graders prepare for their transition to high school, Spanish teacher Jaime Vallar fosters community building across generations in an authentic way through bilingual children’s books. Designed as a going-away present from eighth graders to their Kindergarten buddies, the Spanish/English picture book gives students an opportunity for family members, such as grandparents, aunts/uncles, and older siblings to read/share with the child. Many of our current eighth graders still remember the picture book they received from their eighth-grade buddy!
Students put a lot of effort into incorporating ideas and stories from their buddy to use in their picture book. Take a look at some examples of finished work!
