Lower School Classroom Chronicle

Serenity House of Oakland--a local organization dedicated to empowering women and supporting individuals experiencing homelessness--focuses on providing safe housing, wellness support, and resources that help women and families rebuild their lives with dignity and hope. This partnership connects directly to our fourth-grade social studies and community engaged learning, where students explore what it means to take action, show empathy, and serve their community.

Today, our class welcomed two incredible women from Serenity House who shared about their work and the impact it has on the Oakland community. They spoke with our scholars about compassion, responsibility, and how small acts of kindness can make a big difference. The students asked thoughtful questions and received tips on ways they can contribute to this mission. Next week, we will continue this work by assembling our first wellness bags filled with essential items to support women and individuals in need. Scholars will be making these bags every month along with inspiring notes of hope for the Serenity House community wellness events. Our fourth graders are eager to put their learning into action and be a part of something meaningful for our community.
