First Grade Poetry Slam
Naarah Platt, First Grade

Did you think the big writing projects in first grade ended with the “All About Me” books a couple of months ago? Nope!

Our skilled writers went on to create poetry books, officially making them two-time authors. These creative thinkers wrote “I Come From” poems, color poems, simile poems, “Best Part of Me” poems, acrostic poems, and so many more. Their hard work was then bound together into a beautiful book filled with their creativity, voice, and identity.

But their work didn’t stop there. Each student also recited one or more poems at our First Grade Poetry Slam in front of their grown-ups, stepping into the spotlight and letting their confidence, creativity, and incredible writing skills shine.

Our first graders' growth as writers, creative thinkers, and storytellers who can weave their identities into poetry is truly amazing.
