Be A King! - How Dr. King Inspired Us to Use Our Voices
Social Studies in Kindergarten
Throughout the month of January, the kindergarteners read books about and inspired by the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. They learned about the civil rights movement, Dr. King’s contribution to American history and the meaning of peaceful protest.
As part of our social studies curriculum, the kindergarteners built off of this knowledge and engaged in discussions about the importance of creating just and fair laws, and creating safe communities that celebrate both our differences and connections.
Inspired by the life and work of Dr. King, the kindergarteners created banners bearing a slogan of their making - “All Are Welcome Here!” - to show their solidarity with communities that are being persecuted by the current administration.
