Lower School Classroom Chronicle

"All About Me" Books Published in First Grade

Throughout the fall, first graders focus on building and strengthening their handwriting skills as they grow into more confident writers. In the spring, they begin one of the biggest writing projects of the year, becoming authors of their very own All About Me books. Each student writes an eight-chapter book that also connects to our identity work in social studies. In these chapters, students explore topics such as their family, who they are, where they live, their likes and dislikes, and themselves as learners.

Students also have the opportunity to write a few chapters of their choosing, encouraging creativity and personal expression. Once their writing is complete, students bind their books together and proudly share them during student-led conferences. This special moment allows families to be their child’s first readers and celebrate how much their writing has grown, from learning how to write sentences to publishing an entire book.
