Recognizing that kindergarten is an exciting and sometimes intimidating introduction to the rigors of school life, St. Paul’s provides a warm and welcoming environment for our youngest students. Kindergarten classes are taught by co-teachers. Each day begins with Morning Meeting, where students practice the skills of greeting, listening, responding, and group problem-solving. One of the goals is to develop a community of learners who respect one another. St. Paul’s kindergarten uses a theme-based curriculum that supports the School philosophy of multidisciplinary learning.

The program utilizes several different modes of learning in all subjects, from language arts to fine arts and Spanish to science. The modes include centers, work groups, manipulatives, and field trips. Kindergartners participate in several service learning projects and lead two Chapels each year. Cross grade activities and Buddy projects are essential components of the education program. Early in the year, the kindergartners are introduced to their eighth grade buddies, who escort them to Chapel each week. Kindergartners also have reading buddies and science buddies in different grades. St. Paul’s kindergarten curriculum also includes instruction with St. Paul’s specialists in performing arts, swimming, computers, and physical education. Kindergartners perform at concerts and events with the K-2 Choir. Kindergartners receive written evaluations of their progress at the end of each quarter.
