In pursuit of academic excellence, St. Paul’s multicultural curriculum focuses on a constructivist approach to education. Learning is built on the students’ internal commitments to obtaining knowledge for themselves and for others. As the students come from a wide variety of educational and social backgrounds with many different learning styles, this approach enables teachers to utilize a variety of teaching styles in order to create activities and tools that benefit students with different strengths. These tools include on-site learning, where students explore the many historical and cultural sites, museums, and ecosystems of the Greater Bay Area; collaborative learning, where students are regularly partnered or divided into small work groups; and a cross-grade Buddy Program, in which older students are partnered with their younger peers in many different subjects. Through these learning methods, students take responsibility for their own education and the education of others.

A St. Paul’s School education provides students with a strong foundation in reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, Spanish, the arts and physical education; develops their commitment to a vision of community which values cultural diversity; and helps them develop ethical values necessary to become informed, responsible citizens.
