Assessment
Academic excellence at St. Paul’s School begins by recognizing that students are writers, scholars, scientists, historians, researchers, and artists. Assessment reflects the belief that lifelong learning skills are as important in education and academic achievement as mastery of a particular subject matter. Student evaluation occurs through classroom work, individual initiative, group interaction and presentation, oral and written responses, and participation. St. Paul’s School follows a quarter system and issues report cards four times each year. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade receive written progress reports, and sixth graders receive letter grades each quarter and written evaluations following the second and fourth quarters. Middle school students receive letter grades each quarter and written evaluations following the second and fourth quarter. Parent-teacher conferences are held twice per year, and teachers as well as division directors remain available to discuss any individual student's progress with parents.
