Diversity
Diversity is essential to an excellent education and a primary component of St. Paul’s mission. St. Paul’s is recognized in the Bay Area and nationally for maintaining a community where all individuals are respected, valued and encouraged to accept, appreciate and respect those who are different than they are. Each year, over half of St. Paul’s students are children of color. (National Association of Independent Schools [NAIS] average is 20.5% for similar schools.) In addition, students come from many different faiths and family configurations. They include first generation Americans, many who speak a different language at home, and students with lesbian/gay parents. St. Paul’s also recognizes and supports a variety of learning styles through the training of All Kinds of Minds and utilizes the skills of an educational care coordinator to work with teachers, parents, and students to ensure that each student’s individual learning style is being supported.
St. Paul’s ensures socioeconomic diversity by budgeting 20% of its projected tuition income to a Tuition Assistance Fund that enables the School to provide spaces to a variety of students from different socioeconomic backgrounds and create a stronger educational environment. Each year over one-third of all students receive tuition assistance grants to participate in the School community.
