Events & Activities
Throughout the year, the Parent Council supports a series of events and activities for the St. Paul’s community. Following is a list of the major activities:
Field Day
Field Day is an all-school picnic for St. Paul's families, faculty, staff, and friends to celebrate the beginning of the school year. Held in September, Field Day includes a BBQ, potluck, and games for kids run by parent volunteers and sponsored by the Parent Council.
Book Fair
Our annual Book Fair for students and families begins on Grandparents' & Special Friends' Day (the day before Thanksgiving) and continues the following week for classroom visits. The Book Fair Family Night offers families an opportunity to shop together and enjoy a buffet reception, student entertainment, and a special guest appearance by a popular children's book character. The Book Fair is administered by parent volunteers with the assistance of staff and students. Books for pre-K through adults are available for purchase from the inventory of Cody’s Books. Proceeds support St. Paul's school library.
OakTown Blues & Bar-B-Que
The annual springtime Auction brings together the school community to celebrate and support a commitment to the socioeconomic diversity of the School. The Auction includes live blues music, great food, and a live and silent auction in a casual and fun atmosphere. Proceeds support the Tuition Assistance Program. Parent Volunteer Coordination
Parent volunteers are integral to the operations of both classroom and school-wide activities. As part of the enrollment contract with the School, parents agree to volunteer 30 hours (15 hours for single parents) during the year. Parent Council oversees the recruitment and coordination of parent volunteers for school-wide activities and manages the volunteer database. In addition, the Parent Council Volunteer Coordinator serves as a resource for Room Parents.
Infusion
This parent group explores diversity and how it affects the school community. Infusion holds monthly meetings where they discuss relevant topics and plan for school-wide educational and community-building events.
PEP - Parent Educator Program
This in-class program conducted by parents helps students in grades 3 through 5 learn about decision-making and resistance skills, self-esteem issues, age-appropriate basic drug and alcohol facts, positive peer interaction, and conflict resolution skills. Parents receive training by the Center for Human Development to become the educators of this health promotion curriculum. Parent Council funds the parent training and manages the program.
Scrip
Scrip incorporates various shopping rebate programs that generate funding for Parent Council sponsored programs. St. Paul's relies on 100% household participation to maximize this potentially lucrative income. If every St. Paul's household did this, we could raise more than $25,000 for tuition assistance, special programs, and more. If every household also encouraged family and friends to do the same, the benefits for St. Paul's would be tremendous. For more information, contact St. Paul's School Scrip.
Parent Education
The Parent Association coordinates programs on topics of interest to parents. Activities may include workshops, special guest speakers, surveys, and printed materials.
School Supplies
This program facilitates the bulk purchase of teacher-requested school supplies for both parents and faculty, ensures a minimal cost, saves the environment, and maximizes the Scrip revenue potential of school purchases.
Room Parents
Every homeroom class has two Room Parents who help facilitate communication between the parents and teachers, as well as help recruit and train volunteers for class-based activities. The Room Parent Coordinator is an ad hoc member of the Parent Council who recruits, trains, and supports the Room Parents.
Stuff for Staff
The Parent Council is always looking for ways to acknowledge and support the tremendous commitment of the school’s faculty and staff. Stuff for Staff is a small program that helps the Parent Association donate theatre tickets, sports tickets, valuable coupons, and the like to faculty and staff members who would most appreciate the gifts.
